Bitcoin value July 2010 to July 2014

22 May, 2010 – First recorded bitcoin purchase — 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas. At $25 for the two pizzas, this makes bitcoin worth $0.0025 at the time.

November, 2011 – SpendBitcoins founder buys his first bitcoins at $0.24 apiece.

May, 2011 – SpendBitcoins goes online. Bitcoin trading at $6.62 each.

July, 2011 – Bitcoin tops out at $31. Mt Gox is hacked, goes offline for more than a week, reopens at $17.

December 2011 – Bitcoin hits low of $2 from the downward trend begun after the $31 high.

April, 2013 – New all time high of $266 hit before settling at around $130 in May.

November 2013 – As China rapidly enters the bitcoin market, a high of $1250, approximate parity with gold, is reached.

December 2013 – China passes new regulations making bitcoin trading much more difficult, bitcoin falls to as low as $500.

July 2014 – Many popular online merchants including NewEgg, Overstock and 1800flowers begin accepting bitcoin during 2014. Price bounces back and forth, with some dips and spikes, but generally between $500 and $600.
